ASER 2023 highlighted that students’ career aspirations are often limited not by ability, but by limited exposure to different professions. To address this, the Ministry of Education, NCERT, and UNICEF India launched the Career Guidance Book (Volumes 1 and 2) on 29 July 2024, providing 1,000 free career cards covering a wide range of professions. Each card offers practical information such as responsibilities, education pathways, income ranges, scholarships, work environments, growth opportunities, study options, and real-world examples. In August 2025, CBSE further strengthened this initiative through its Career Guidance Dashboard and Counselling Hub and Spoke School Model, extending career and psychosocial support to schools without dedicated counsellors. Freely available through NCERT, the Career Cards provide a nationwide, structured career-exploration resource that supports NEP 2020’s vision of helping students explore careers before choosing their Grade 11 stream.
