Frequently Asked Questions
Logging in, creating quizzes, adding students, and sharing quizzes
Welcome to the Bookends quiz help page. These answers explain the usual steps for signing in, preparing quizzes, managing student accounts, and sharing quizzes with your students.
Choose a question below to expand the answer. Some menu labels may differ slightly depending on the account type and the options enabled for your account.
1. Logging in and accessing your dashboard
How do I log in as a teacher or quiz creator?
Open the main website and select the regular Login option. Enter your registered username and password, then submit the form. After a successful login, open your dashboard to access the tools available to your account.
If you are new to Bookends and do not have an account, use the registration option if it is available, or contact the person who manages your school's Bookends access.
How do students log in?
Students should use the student login page provided by their teacher or school. They should enter the student login credentials given to them and follow the instructions on the page.
Student accounts are different from the regular accounts used by teachers or quiz creators. Students should not use a teacher's username and password.
What should I do if I cannot log in?
- Check that the username and password have been entered correctly, including capital letters and spaces.
- Confirm that you are using the correct login page for your account type.
- If your browser has saved an old password, enter the current password manually.
- If you still cannot sign in, contact the site administrator or the person who created your account.
Do not share your password with students or send it in a public group.
How do I log out safely?
Use the Logout option in the website menu when you have finished. If you are using a shared computer, close the browser window after logging out and do not save your password in the browser.
2. Creating and managing quizzes
How do I create a quiz?
- Log in with your regular teacher or quiz-creator account.
- Open your dashboard and choose the quiz creation or question-management option.
- Select the appropriate quiz topic and level, where required.
- Add the questions and answer options, and check that the correct answer is marked properly.
- Save your work and review the quiz to make sure the questions, spelling, and answer choices are correct.
The exact fields shown depend on the quiz creation page. If you cannot find a creation option, check your dashboard menu or ask the site administrator whether quiz creation is enabled for your account.
What is the difference between a quiz topic and a level?
A quiz topic identifies the subject or theme of a quiz, while a level identifies the intended learning stage, such as Primary or Middle. The same topic may be available at more than one level, so check both before adding or managing questions.
How can I find quizzes I have created?
Log in and open My Quizzes from your dashboard or website menu. Use the level filter, if available, to narrow the list. Select the number of questions where that option is provided.
Your list is intended to help you find and manage the quizzes associated with your account. If you cannot see a quiz, verify that you are signed in to the account that created it.
Why is my quiz not visible to students?
A quiz may not be available to students if it has not been approved or published, if it has no usable questions, or if you are checking it from a different account. Review the quiz and its approval status, where shown. If the problem continues, contact the administrator.
Can I delete a quiz?
If the dashboard provides a Delete Quiz option, select the correct quiz topic and level, verify your selection, and confirm the deletion only when you are certain. Deleting questions or a quiz may be irreversible. Check carefully before confirming.
If the page reports that the selected topic or level is invalid, reload the page and select the topic and level again. If the message persists, contact the site administrator rather than repeatedly submitting the deletion.
3. Adding and managing students
How do I add students to my school or class?
- Log in to your regular account.
- Open the student-management option in your dashboard.
- Choose the option to add a student.
- Enter the student's name, admission number or student code, grade/class, and any other fields requested by the form.
- Save the record and check that the student appears in the list.
Use the student's details exactly as maintained in your school records. The available fields may depend on how your school account has been configured.
Can I add many students at once?
If your dashboard includes an Import Students option, you can use it to add multiple records from a supported spreadsheet or CSV file. Follow the column format required by the import page, and check the preview or results after importing.
Before importing, remove unintended blank rows and check for duplicate student records. If the import page provides a sample file or format, use that format rather than guessing the column headings.
What are the student username and admission number used for?
The username is used by the student to sign in when the system assigns or requests a student login name. The admission number/student code is an identifying value maintained in the student record. They may be different, so give students the exact login details specified by your system.
Why am I getting a duplicate student or admission-number message?
Check whether the student has already been entered. Compare the name, admission number/student code, and school or class details before trying again. Do not create a second record just to get past a warning. If you believe the existing record is incorrect, ask the administrator to review it.
How should I share student login details?
Give each student their own login details privately. Avoid posting passwords or lists containing personal student information in public groups. Ask students to keep their credentials confidential and log out after using a shared device.
4. Sharing quizzes with students
How do I share a quiz link?
- Log in to the account that created the quiz.
- Open My Quizzes and locate the quiz you want students to take.
- Click the Share Quiz button below the quiz details, if it is available on your page.
- Wait for the confirmation message: “Quiz link copied! Now share it with your students.”
- Paste the copied link into your class communication channel, learning platform, email, or message to students.
The share link is copied to your clipboard; it does not need to be displayed on the page. Paste it into a message using Ctrl + V on Windows, or the Paste command on your device.
What should I do if the Share Quiz button says the link was copied but I cannot paste it?
Try clicking the button again, then paste immediately into a text editor or message box. If clipboard access is blocked by the browser, check the browser's site permissions and make sure you are using the correct website address. You can also open the quiz's sharing page, if available, and use its copy-link option.
Will students need to log in to take a shared quiz?
This depends on the type of link and the access settings used for that quiz. If the shared link takes students to a student login page, they must sign in with their student credentials before continuing. Follow any login instructions included with the link.
Can I send the same quiz link to an entire class?
Yes. You can paste the copied link into the communication channel your class normally uses. Make sure the message explains which quiz students should take and whether they must sign in first. Share links only with the intended learners.
Why does a shared quiz link not open the quiz I expected?
Check that you copied the link for the correct quiz and that it has not been truncated when pasted. If students are redirected to sign in, they should complete the login process and follow the redirect. If the wrong quiz opens or the link produces an error, return to My Quizzes and copy the link again. Contact the administrator if the problem remains.
5. Taking quizzes and troubleshooting
What should students do before starting a quiz?
Students should open the link provided by their teacher, sign in if prompted, and check that the quiz title is correct. They should read each question carefully, choose an answer, and keep an eye on any timer displayed on the page.
What if a student loses internet access during a quiz?
Reconnect to the internet and check whether the quiz page is still open. Do not assume that answers were saved or submitted successfully. If the quiz does not resume or the result is missing, tell the teacher which quiz was being attempted and what happened.
Where can I get further help?
If these instructions do not solve the problem, contact your school's Bookends administrator. Include the page you were using, the action you took, and the exact error message. Do not send your password or unnecessary student personal information.
