1611 Mughal ruler Jahangir married Mehrunnisa, known in history as Nur Jahan.
1661 King Charles II married Portuguese princess Catherina the Bragança. India’s city of Mumbai, formed from seven islands, was given by Portugal to Charels II of England as dowry for his marriage to Catherine of Braganza.
1886 Rash Behari Bose, Indian revolutionary leader against the British Raj, was born. He was one of the key organisers of the Ghadar Mutiny and founded the First Indian National Army during World War II based on millitarization policy of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
1941 There was a huge death toll in a storm at Ganges Delta region in India.
1999 India launched air strikes in the disputed mountains of the Kargil and Drass regions of Kashmir against suspected Pakistani infiltrators. Gen Musharraf was later identified as the architect of Pakistan's Kargil campaign which took place in July of the same year.
